CranioSacral Therapy

What Is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive technique. In some cases, headaches, neck and back pain, stress and tension are among some of the conditions that have been successfully treated with CranioSacral Therapy.

CranioSacral Therapy encourages a person’s own natural healing mechanisms through a gentle method of detection and correction of imbalances in the craniosacral system.  This system includes the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  It ranges from the bones of the skull, face and mouth (cranium) down to the sacrum (tailbone area).

John E. Upledger, D.O. F.A.A.O., developed CranioSacral Therapy and has taught the technique internationally.

What does a CranioSacral Therapy session involve?

Before the session begins, I will gather pertinent information as to the reason an individual is seeking CranioSacral Therapy.  Information describing and illustrating the craniosacral system will be available to the individual.

Individuals will be asked to read and sign an Informed Consent For Treatment and will also be given a copy of Client Rights and Privacy Practices (HIPPA)

CranioSacral Therapy is performed with the person fully clothed.  Using light touch at different points on the body, the practitioner monitors the rhythm of the craniosacral system and uses delicate manual techniques to release any problems areas.

A session may last 15 minutes to 60 minutes depending on individual needs.

Who Can Perform CranioSacral Therapy?

A wide variety of healthcare professionals including, doctors of chiropractic, dentists, physical therapists, psychologists, acupuncturists, massage therapists and other professionals practice CranioSacral Therapy.

Individuals who want to practice CranioSacral Therapy may take training from instructors trained and experienced in CranioSacral Therapy.

My Interest in CranioSacral Therapy

My interest in CranioSacral Therapy began after a family member was referred to CranioSacral Therapy for a physical problem and reported a decrease in symptoms from the craniosacral session.  Since then, family members and friends have reported experiencing positive results for various uncomfortable conditions through CranioSacral Therapy.

One of my personal goals is to assist individuals in exploring and affirming their own healing process as a whole person.  CranioSacral Therapy is one potential option towards this goal.
